FAQs

So you have some questions? We might have some answers!

  • What is cold process soap?

The term "cold process" simply refers to the kind of soap making. To take from a savant in the soaping world, Brambleberry's website: "Cold process soap is made by combining oils and sodium hydroxide lye. That causes a chemical reaction called saponification" which creates soap!

  • Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) sounds scary, what is it?

Lye in it's raw form can be dangerous if it's not handled properly, but that's what we are here for! Lye is simply used as a sort of bonding agent for the oils in the soap making process and it has been used for decades in both homemade and commercial soaps. It is essential for making cold process soap. We use very little lye in our soap batches, but don't worry, once the bars are cured for 4-6 weeks any risk of lye is completely gone and the soaps are 100% safe to use for your skin.

  • How is your soap different from what I get at the store?

Our cold process handmade soap is made with few ingredients with the highest quality. The carefully cultivated soap recipe is designed with your skin in mind and does not leave your skin feeling tight or dry. The suppliers selected for the ingredients use sustainable and renewable processes that are friendly to the environment. Not to mention these soaps are unique and one of a kind that come in a variety of fragrances, themes, and colors! By purchasing LazyPandaProductions soaps you are supporting a small business that truly cares about their products and customers!

  • How long does it take to make soap?

The act of making the soap itself (mixing the oils, lye, micas, and fragrance) really only takes about 30-45 minutes. Then it sits in a mold for 24-48 hours in which it is cut and set aside. What takes the longest is the cure time. Cold process soap needs anywhere from 4-6 weeks (depending on the type and amount of oils) to cure before it is ready to be used. My current soap recipe only needs 4 weeks of curing time after it is cut.

  • Where do you make your soaps?

All of the soaps are handcrafted and made in Charlotte, North Carolina. Right here in the USA!

  • A soap I received has specks of liquid on it, what is that?

Dreaded "soap sweat"! It really isn't dreaded, it's simply a cosmetic issue with what is called melt and pour soap. Melt and pour soap is often used for embeds on the top of our soaps and they are made mostly of glycerin. Glycerin attracts the moisture from the air which form on the surface of the soaps. Not to fear! After one or two uses of the soap the soap sweat will disappear and may not appear whatsoever in dry climates.

  • A soap I received has a white film on the top, is it old?

Definitely not! All of LazyPandaProductions soaps are made within a year and soaps that are older than a year are examined for quality. What you may be seeing is called "soda ash." From Brambleberry's website soap ash: "creates an uneven, white, ashy film on the bars. Soda ash is harmless and forms when unsaponified lye reacts with naturally-occurring carbon dioxide in the air. It doesn’t affect the final bars and the soap is safe to use." Soda ash, similar to soap sweat, is a cosmetic symptom of making homemade soap and after a few uses of the bar you will no longer see it.

  • Do you offer promotions or sales?

Indeed we do! Periodically or anytime we celebrate a milestone we will run a sale or two. Follow us on social media to keep up with any possible sales!

  • How do you decide to price your soaps?

Our soaps are priced based off of the quality and types of materials used, the cost of fragrances or colorants in the soap, the amount of soap in each bar, and the overall time and labor to create said soap.
